Sarracenia will need permanently moist (but not soggy) soil. This is best achieved by regular watering in a water tray throughout the growing season – avoid watering from above. Always use rainwater or distilled water, as carnivorous plants are particularly sensitive to the chemicals contained in tap water. Sarracenia do not need feeding – they will catch all of the food that they need themselves.
In autumn, Sarracenia become dormant and the pitchers begin to die back. These can be trimmed away as they die. The compost should be kept just moist throughout the winter. Resume watering, when plants start into growth again. During winter these plants require a temperature of around 5C (32F).
